August Recap + September Preview

August has been an interesting month for me. My best friend moved into the house with me, and I’ve been working more hours at work, so both have cut into my reading time quite considerably.

Books I read this month

The Black Dahlia by James Ellroy (Final Grade A)

Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen (Final Grade A)

The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff (Final Grade A)

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (Final Grade B+)

Charity Girl by Michael Lowenthal (Final Grade A)

The Sand Castle by Rita Mae Brown (Final Grade A)

When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris (Final Grade A)

Up for Renewal by Cathy Alter (Final Grade B)

Father Knows Less by Wendell Jamieson (Final Grade A)

The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde (Final Grade B)

Immortal by Traci L Slatton (Final Grade A)

Challenges I joined/read for

I joined the Lit-Flicks Challenge and will start reading Shop Girl this month.

I finished Northanger Abbey for my Classics Challenge,

I didn’t read any graphic novels for August, but I will be catching up on that this weekend.

Other bookish news

I hosted 2 successful giveaways for August, Immortal and The Secret Life of Bees. I’m hoping to do more each month as I begin to tackle the TBR stack on my bookshelves.

September is also going to be a very busy month for me, but happily it includes the giant San Francisco 4 day book festival!

I will be MIA for the majority of this upcoming weekend. From Thursday morning until late Tuesday night, I will be out of state, and most likely away from a computer for the duration. Since I will be on two 10 hour flights, I’m hoping to get a lot of reading done during the weekend. I’m packing light, so I’m taking mostly small books and graphic novels. I’m making my way over to Philadelphia, where hopefully I’ll be able to fit in some sight-seeing for the short trip. I really want to see the first library of the United States.
