  1. I have some all-time favorite cookbooks, among them: Betty Crocker’s Cookbook (my edition is from the 70s), Simple Food by Alice Waters, Not Your Mother’s Slow Cooker Cookbook by Beth Hensperger and The New Basics Cookbook by Julee Rosso and Sheila Lukins.

My favorite ingredients include thyme, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, fresh veggies (all kinds!) and chicken.

And I tell everyone that a must have kitchen appliance is the slow cooker – wonderful for those who work full time, or have kids running around their legs! And yes, a coffee maker…and because I love to make soup – an immersion blender.

Thanks for a really fun post!

  2. Oh gosh. I wouldn’t know where to start. I have so many cookbooks I love, I haven’t ever thought about ranking them. My favorite food writers include Laurie Colwan, MFK Fisher, Elizabeth David, Waverly Root, and all the others I can’t think of now. :)) Must have a coffee maker of some sort, gas burners, baking stone, good paring knives, and zillion other things I use each week. I’m hopeless at this. 🙂

  3. What fun! I love posts like this.

  4. wait! there on no Cooks Illustrated cookbook on there!!

  5. I am adding the frugally sustainable blog to my list. Thank you.

  6. What a great idea! I agree with many of your favourite food blogs. I’ve gotten so many great recipes from Smitten Kitchen, in particular. I love all her baking.

  7. The casserole book looks like one to investigate. I had not heard about it.

  8. This is fun to read 🙂

It takes some time to think of my 5 favorites but my favorite ingredients are probably most easy 🙂
    1) Sweet Potatoes
    2) Sundried tomatoes
    3) Avocado
    4) Cheese
    5) Spinach

  9. What a fun foodie meme! I’m going to bookmark this and do it on my blog one day, if you don’t mind. [I’ll give you credit from where I found the meme].

In the meantime, my favorite [most well worn] cookbook is probably Classic Indian Cooking by Julie Sahni. Would you believe I pulled it out of someone’s paper recycling at the curb while on a walk in my neighborhood at least ten years ago?

  10. I got a coffee bean grinder at the beginning of this year after someone gave my wife a gift set of assorted types of whole bean coffees. I don’t know how i went without all these years. Love it!

    Tossing It Out

  11. My fav cookbook tends to change, I rotate the books that sit on my kitchen shelf every few months. Which ever is handy gets to be fav for a while. My new fav ingredient is Quinoa.
