I love walking into his room in the morning to find him already awake, quietly flipping through the story we read the night before. (This doesn’t happen often enough. Usually I’m woken up by getting a face full of book in the morning and an enthusiastic “Hellooo!”.)

I want them to love it. I want them to know that not only are Oz and Wonderland available to them, but all the wonders of this world. as well. I want them to know the joys of adventure and the thrill of discovery, sure. More than that, though, I want them to know that they can answer questions and learn new things. I want them to see that they can learn and grow through books, and they can do it in class, with friends for fun, or all by themselves. I want to teach them that, like cooking or sports, reading is a hobby and a life skill.

Also, isn’t it a thrill when your kids fall in love with a book you adored as a kid? I know that it excites me every time they ask for “The Monster at the End of This Book” or “The Lorax”.
