First line: My brother killed Abraham Lincoln.
Review:
This book tells the story of Asia Booth, John Wilkes Booth older sister. Told by first time fiction writer, and historian Jane Singer, Booth’s Sister follows the Booth family from early childhood into their adult years.
It is apparent that Singer did her research for this novel, but the thing that bothered me is that I wasn’t quite sure what age group it was meant for. It felt more like a young adult book. The book is a simple and fast read, and if anything makes me more interested to read Asia’s Booth memoir. I feel that Singer took a lot of liberties with Asia’s childhood, but this is a peice of fiction. Asia had many defining characteristics; her rivalry with her brother for her father’s love, her desire to be an actor, to be a man. This book is a decent supplement to anyone wanting to know more about Booth, but it is not an authitative peice of writing.
