She did not get a very favorable review from John Berendt in City of Falling Angels, I can tell you that much. I'm really interested to see what she has to say in her stories. Do you know about Jane Turner Rylands's "Venetian Stories" http://italian-mysteries.com/JTR01.html? It's a lovely book of 12 short stories about Venice -- light but literary fiction. I love "Death in Venice" (and most of Henry James, including his many letters from Italy). So for me Rylands is not a substitute for them but an author for a different mood.
