It&#039;s set in the 19th century, taking in European Wars and the American frontier, telling the story of the title character, who becomes known as El Tigre, for his fierce and fearless nature and exploits.  There&#039;s lots of history here, including Indian tribal differences, Spanish Aristocracy and the California gold mining, but it&#039;s not heavy handed at all. Instead, it&#039;s just a well-paced, well-plotted novel both adults and teens will enjoy. Johann, the title character, is definitely not your typical immigrant. I was sad to say goodbye to him, but the author hints at a sequel, so maybe I&#039;ll get to say hello again.]]></description>
